U21 HSG Student Speaker Application & Funding
In 2024, the Executive Committee of U21 HSG launched the inaugural “Student Speaker Funding.” It aims to enhance student representation from member universities at the U21 HSG Annual Meeting, where successful student applicants will have the opportunity to speak there.
Since 2023, several U21 HSG Discipline and Project Groups have been engaging students to share their perspectives on topics that the Groups are working on. The theme of the 2023 Annual Meeting (hosted by Lund University) was on “Climate Change and Health”, and the theme of the 2024 Annual Meeting (hosted by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Amsterdam) was on “Data Driven Health Care and Teaching.”
2025 Applications
We are inviting health sciences students studying at any of the U21 HSG member institutions to apply for this opportunity to present their work during the 2025 Annual Meeting. Hosted by the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, from 25 - 28 August 2025, the theme is, “Aging Across the Lifespan.” Students who are leading projects or activities relevant to this theme can apply. Doctoral Students who apply to the 2025 Doctoral Student Forum will not be eligible to apply for the 2025 Student Speaker Funding.
Presentation guidelines
Any health sciences student from U21 HSG Member Institutions can apply for the opportunity to deliver a short presentation about their student-led project / initiative or activity relevant to the theme of the Annual Meeting. Examples of student-led projects / initiatives / activities (include but are not limited to campaigns, association / club, non-profit entity, development of a tool, research project [MSc / BSc level] and more). Successful applicants will have approximately 15 - 20 minutes for their presentation.
Award and funding
A maximum of two successful applications will be awarded a maximum amount of US$3,000 in total. The amount awarded will depend on the location and travel costs to attend the Annual Meeting. The funding will cover economy class airfare and accommodation for a maximum of two people from the same application.
